I can say that ever since my kids were in high school every time we visit BC I have to get my fix of beef brisket and tendon curry at the curry house. They are now in their thirties and the Curry House is still my favorite spot at the food court in Yaohan Center
Malaysian influence for sure and brings back great memories of some of my Mom's cooking as she was raised in Penang, Malaysia. They have other Malaysian inspired dishes with fried rice, noodles or chicken. I was tempted to try those but nope, went for my usual. Beef brisket and tendon curry with some steamed rice.
The dish is so delicious. Gravy nice and rich with a thin film of yellow oil on top signifying the wonderful flavors below. Beef brisket and tendon so tender it literally melts in your mouth. I got my fix for lunch and since we were heading to Whistler for the week we decided to take a couple of orders to go. You guessed it. Lunch and dinner was curry!
Headed back to Oregon on Friday, maybe a detour to Richmond BC for another fix of curry. -

First time trying this place. Noticed they had the Hainanese Chicken Rice. Considering that it's from a food court I went in with low expectations and they were actually exceeded by a long shot.
The chicken, which was bone-in, contributed to a lot of wonderful flavour, compared to other locations which debone their chicken. Additionally, it comes with the soup and the sauces were very flavourful as well. -

First try of their hainanese chicken a few years back and it was disappointing.
Tried again for lunch today and in hope this time would be better.
However...
The Chicken was soft but no favour at all.
The rice barely contained any chicken favour.
So it was another disappointment.
They should just stick with selling the curry. -

Not the original Curry House anymore!!!
I have lived in Vancouver from 1990~1997, and came to Curry House for their Hainan chicken from time to time, and I can never find another Hainan chicken tastes as good, not in Singapore, not in kualaLampu, not in HongKong, not in Taiwan, not in LA.
The very last time I visited here in 2013 it still tasted just as I have remembered, but now in 2019 I am here again, the old shop(at the corner with a standing rooster as logo) is no longer there. Instead, few shops down, there is another one with exact the same English name but different chinese name, and has a logo with a rooater posting thumb up. I hesitated but had no choice but to order from this new restaurant, and it was not worth returning. I guess this new shop is trying to piggie back on the fame of the old name, but the meat has no flavor and texture is musshy and soup is no good....
If anyone know where the chief of the original Curry House is at now, please let me know. -

One of the best Hainanese chicken rice I've ever had.
One of my friend lived in Vancouver BC 15 yrs ago, and her favorite food is the Hainanese chicken rice from curry house. Finally I got a chance to taste what's all the fuss about.
First of all, the Hainanese chicken rice is extraordinary. The chicken meat is very juicy, tender and lightly flavored. Two difference sauces are provided, they're not really necessary because the chicken itself tastes very delicious already. The rice is quite unique because it's covered with lots chicken oil. It sounds greasy but actually pretty good and brings out the sweetness of the rice.
I also ordered curry rice noodle and it's excellent. Usually I'm not a fan of curry noodle, because it's quite easy to get too salty and spicy. But this one got the flavor right balanced. And the rice noodle get great texture, not too soggy nor too hard.
Now I can see that why this store stands in the same food court for 15 yrs and still a popular choice for locals. It's hard to do daily ordinary food right, but they sure did it.
